Finnish Big Ask floods through Helsinki with demands for climate justice

4,000 people took part in the "human flood" event in Helsinki on 5th September, to demand that Finland adopts a legally binding climate law with annual cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, and takes a strong and just position to the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen in December.

Human Flood

The event, organised by Friends of the Earth Finland and a coalition of 23 environmental organisations, is the largest ever climate change event to have taken place in Finland.

After flooding through the streets of Helsinki dressed in blue, the event ended with a demonstration on the steps of the Finnish parliament with 2,000 people forming the words: "Ilmastolaki Nyt" (Climate Law Now!)

The main Finnish negotiator at the climate conference has stated her support for the climate change law as a result of the action.
