Cyber-action: EU must take action in Cancún
Cyber-action: EU must take action in Cancún
At the 2009 UN climate talks in Copenhagen, faint-hearted European leaders accepted a US-driven plan to weaken international ambition to stop climate change.
On the eve of the latest UN climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, the EU is returning with a dangerous and weak negotiating strategy.
Friends of the Earth is urging the EU to change its plan - it must match the scientific urgency of climate change with effective and just action.
We're calling on the EU to:
- Commit to fast and deep emissions cuts under the Kyoto Protocol.
- Not be intimidated by pressure from the US to weaken international ambitions.
- Stop calling for an expansion of emissions trading schemes.
Belgium is the current holder of the European Presidency. Heading the EU delegation to Cancun is Joke Schauvliege the Flemish Environment Minister.
The European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, is also attending the talks.
Please email Joke Schauvliege and Connie Hedegaard - ask them to act for climate justice.
