Friends of the Earth Europe

What started this European wide Big Ask?

We’re building on the success in the UK. This year the UK will make history by being the first country in the world to have a climate change law with legally binding targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The law will support climate solutions that will help us all – individuals, business and communities – to cut our carbon footprint.

Such ground-breaking legislation really is a cause for celebration – but something is missing. Against all logic, the Government are leaving the UK’s share of international aviation and shipping emissions out of the law.
Through The Big Ask campaign they are calling for a law which counts ALL emissions from the start and commits the UK to carbon dioxide reductions of 80 per cent by 2050 in line with the latest science.

MPs will have the chance to vote on the new law this summer before it is introduced. The majority of MPs have said they support a strong climate change law. Now it’s time to make sure they act.
